Fire Pit Burgers

Years ago, my husband and sons built a fire pit in our backyard. They collected a bunch of rocks and stones which we use for year-round cooking. For them, I think most of the fun is building a fire, but we always say that anything grilled on it tastes so good. It has that real wood smokey flavor. Most recently, we made Fire Pit Burgers. Ground beef shaped into burgers and seasoned with salt and pepper. They were so deliciously juicy and flavorful. Topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and Special Sauce, they're a family favorite.

Ingredients for Fire Pit Burgers:

*12 burgers

Burgers:

4 pounds Ground beef

kosher salt

black pepper

12 slices of American Cheese

12 Potato Rolls

tomatoes

lettuce

sliced red onions

Special Sauce:

1 1/2 cups mayonnaise

1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon chopped red onion

2 tablespoons chopped dill pickle

1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

I make three one- third-pound burgers for each pound of meat.

Time-Saving Tips: Shape burgers a few hours in advance of grilling. Prepare Special Sauce earlier in the day.

Let's see what we need.

We're reay to cook.

Combine the Special Sauce Ingredients and set aside.

Divide the meat into 12 equally shaped meatballs. Press each one down to form a patty. Sprinkle both sides with salt and pepper.

Heat the Fire Pit or Grill and cook the burgers until crisp on the outside and juicy. Top with slices of cheese for the last minute of grilling. When you remove, the burgers don't forget to toast the buns. I like to build my sandwich, starting with the bottom half of the bread, Special Sauce, lettuce, burger, onion, and the bun.

They're ready! Fire Pit Burgers are the best especially with the Special Sauce. Don't worry if you're backyard doesn't have a Fire Pit. These basic burgers are delicious when grilled and slathered with sauce.

Enjoy!
