For this New Yorker, nothing beats starting my weekend with bagels and smoked salmon. My family likes it best when I gussy it up a bit with capers, thinly sliced cucumbers, and red onions. And did I mention the bagels are toasted? That's a must around here too. New York Bagels and Lox is truly a favorite of mine, and it's so delicious. It always seems special, and the best part is there is no cooking.
Ingredients for New York Bagels and Lox:
Bagels of choice
smoked salmon or lox
cream cheese
thinly sliced cucumbers
capers, drained and dried
fresh dill
Kosher salt
black pepper
This is more of a guide than a recipe. Gather up as many bagels as needed, a few slices of salmon per person, a block of cream cheese, and toppings of your choice.
Time-Saving Tip: Start brewing your coffee before you start toasting the bagels.
Let's see what we need.
We're ready to make breakfast.
I like to toast the bagels and let them cool before spreading the cream cheese on top. While they're cooling, I get all of the toppings ready. One cooled spread each half with cream cheese, top with salmon, and then add the topping. I sprinkle a little salt and pepper for that extra something.
It's ready! New York Bagels and Lox is the perfect breakfast any day of the week. It's so easy to prepare, and there is no standing over a hot stove. This breakfast will put you in a New York State of mind.
Enjoy!
Hi Kevin! I'm so happy you like this picture. Isn't it amazing how the simple things in life can be so beautifully delicious? How lucky you are to have received such a great gift from your friend. I bet the lox will be delicious. And thanks for inspiring me to try this with hot smoked kippers. It will be a new and exciting taste for me. All the best to you my friend. V.
How gorgeous, V. :-) I normally prefer hot smoked (kippers) salmon to lox, but a friend gifted me some beautiful lox, so I'll be eating exactly this in the coming week too!
