Guinness Irish Soda Bread

The best part about St. Patrick's Day is the Irish Soda Bread! Okay, I know that's not true. But boy, is it irresistible. I have made many versions of this tasty bread over the years, so I added some Guinness into the mix. Come to think of it; I added Guinness to my Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage this year, too! I have a one-track mind this holiday.

Anyway, I used lots of the same ingredients like flour, buttermilk, and butter, and I swapped out my usual currents for raisins. And it turned out great. This has a great toothsome bite and flavors and is the perfect vehicle for lots of soft Irish butter. It's easy and fun to mix up and bake. I promise you'll be very popular if you do.

Ingredients for Guinness Irish Soda Bread:

2 1/4 cups bread flour

2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 cup buttermilk

3/4 cup Guinness

2 eggs

2 teaspoons melted butter, cooled plus 1 tablespoon melted butter

3/4 cups raisins

1 Tablespoon caraway seeds

Time-Saving Tips: The bread is best the day it's baked but is delicious if made a day in advance.

We're ready to bake.

Combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, caraway seeds, and salt; mix in the raisins.

Whisk the Guinness, milk, eggs, and melted butter together.

Pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture and fold to combine.

Transfer the mixture to a floured surface and gently a round shape; gently cut a crisis cross on top of the bread. Brush with the tablespoon of melted butter and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven until golden.

It's ready! Skillet Irish Soda Bread is moist, delicious, and full of flavor. It's the perfect side to Corned Beef and Cabbage or Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage. I love having the leftovers toasted for breakfast the next morning.

Enjoy!
